Program Description

Did you leave school before completing grade ten and have an interest in entrepreneurship? Have you been out of school for a period of time? Would you like to finish your Grade 12? Enrolling in Adult 10 – Entrepreneurship might be the next step at achieving your goals.

The Adult 10 program is a five-month pilot program that consists of four core courses and two electives. The instructional delivery of the program is through hands-on, project-based learning, innovation, and cultivating an interdisciplinary learning environment that is aligned with provincial standards. Students will learn to work as a team to solve complex business and entrepreneurial problems while managing SIIT merchandise pop-up shops.

Upon completion of the program student may be eligible for entry to the Adult 12 program, successful completion will allow students to gain two Adult 12 electives. Completing the program will help students pursue employment and some apprenticeship opportunities. Program offered in Saskatoon.

*SIIT does not currently offer upgrading.

Admission Requirements

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old and out of school for one year.
  • The applicant must not have a pre-existing Grade 10 or Grade 12 completion.
  • The applicant will be CAAT tested and must score an equivalency above a Grade 8.
  • The applicant must write a 1-page Personal Essay and submit.
  • Applicants will take part in an interview selection process

Acceptance Policy

Strong preference is given to applicants who are Status First Nations, but SIIT programs are open to anyone.

English Language Benchmark and International Students

SIIT not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian/ Permanent Resident to apply.

To be admitted into this program you must be able to understand and communicate in English (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment of six – CLB6).

Tuition and Fees

There is no cost to attend Adult Basic Education programs at SIIT. Once accepted, program staff will help you to secure Education and Training Incentive (ETI).

Delivery Method

This course is mostly classroom learning for six hours per day.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is essential for academic success. Each program has specific attendance requirements that must be adhered to in order to graduate.

If you have been approved for Education and Training Incentive (ETI), you must maintain a 90% attendance to remain eligible for funding.

Graduation

50% in at least five Adult 10 courses is required to complete this program. If you complete Adult 10, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance (Level 3) and an SIIT Transcript.

Career & Post-Secondary Opportunities

Completing Adult 10 will prepare you to enter Adult Basic Education 12 or pursue employment and apprenticeship opportunities.
