Microsoft Authenticator

Authenticator is the free app on your phone that confirms it’s really you when you sign in to your SIIT account.

Set it up

  1. Install Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
  2. On a computer (staff: your SIIT laptop, or a computer at an SIIT location), go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and sign in with your SIIT email and password.
  3. Choose Add sign-in method → Microsoft Authenticator, then follow the steps. You’ll scan a QR code with the app.
  4. Approve the test notification on your phone.

First time signing in and you see “Let’s keep your account secure”? That’s genuine if the address ends in microsoftonline.com or microsoft.com (in an app with no address bar: if it appeared right after you signed in). Set it up right away; it walks you through the same steps. Staff: finish it on your SIIT laptop or at an SIIT location.

Signing in

When you sign in, a number shows on your screen. Type that number into Authenticator on your phone and approve.

Only approve sign-ins you started

  • If Authenticator asks you to approve and you aren’t signing in right now, tap Deny or No, it’s not me.
  • Then change your password at siit.ca/password and contact the SIIT IT Dept. Someone may know your password.
  • Never read your Authenticator codes to anyone, including someone who says they’re from the SIIT IT Dept.

New phone

Still have your old phone? Set up the new one first, then remove the old one:

  1. Install Authenticator on the new phone.
  2. Go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, choose Add sign-in method → Microsoft Authenticator, and approve the sign-in on your old phone when asked.
  3. Once the new phone works, delete the old phone from the list.

Lost your phone, or it’s already wiped? Contact the SIIT IT Dept. After we confirm who you are, we’ll help you set up Authenticator on your new phone.

No smartphone?

Contact the SIIT IT Dept and we’ll set up another way for you to sign in.
