Scams and phishing
Phishing is a fake email, text or message that tries to get your password or your money, or to get you to open something harmful.
Warning signs
- It asks you to sign in, “verify your account” or reset your password from a link.
- It’s urgent: your account will be closed, a payment is overdue, a gift card is needed today.
- The sender’s address doesn’t match the name, or it comes from outside SIIT but claims to be from SIIT.
- An unexpected attachment, shared document, voicemail or invoice.
- Someone asks for your Authenticator codes or to approve a sign-in.
Remember
- SIIT will never email you a link to reset your password.
- The SIIT IT Dept will never ask for your password or Authenticator codes.
- Only enter your SIIT password on Microsoft’s sign-in page (login.microsoftonline.com).
Got a suspicious email?
- Don’t click links, open attachments or reply.
- Forward it to phishing@siit.ca, or use Report → Phishing in Outlook.
- Delete it.
Already clicked, entered your password, or approved a sign-in?
Act quickly. It’s okay, and it happens to everyone.
- Change your password right away at siit.ca/password.
- Call the SIIT IT Dept at 306-477-9765 (or email itsupport@siit.ca) and tell us what happened.
- If you opened an attachment on an SIIT computer, disconnect it from Wi-Fi or the network cable and leave it on until the SIIT IT Dept contacts you.
