Go Where Eagles Dare Certificate of Achievement

SIIT’s outbound mobility program, Go Where Eagles Dare (GWED), is a pilot program partially funded by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan). The Go Where Eagles Dare program provides full-time SIIT students with the opportunity to participate in international work, study, and travel experiences. In an increasingly globalized world, SIIT students are given equitable opportunities to develop the fluency and connection required to enter an international labour market. Therefore, SIIT students enrolled in the Go Where Eagles Dare program will gain diverse cross-cultural experiences, skills, and knowledge and increased awareness and preparedness for international work and study opportunities.

Program Details

The Go Where Eagles Dare program allows SIIT students the opportunity to participate and contribute to the community through various out-of-classroom activities. These activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Fundraising – Community engagement through various fundraising opportunities.
  • Networking – Virtual and/or in-person networking with Post-Secondary and community partners.
  • Mentorship program – Travel Club alumni may mentor new recruitments.
  • Knowledge transfer – Travel Club alumni will participate in a Travel Club storytelling session with new recruitments.

Length of Program

During students’ studies, the recruitment phase of the Go Where Eagles Dare program begins in the first term. The program continues throughout students’ full-time studies, with international travel in the second term.

Graduation

Successful students will earn a SIIT Certificate of Achievement (3 credits / 45 course hours). The Go Where Eagles Dare program is a pass/fail program. Students must complete all formative and summative assessments in GWED 215 and GWED 225 to receive the Certificate.

Academic Requirements

To register for the Go Where Eagles Dare program, students must already be registered in a full-time SIIT program. Students must adhere to all current program requirements, policies, and procedures and be in good academic standing for the duration of their program.

Non-Academic Requirements

Students may be subject to international and travel regulations, laws, policies, and procedures.

Program Courses and Objectives

GWED 215 – International Work Study Prep – 1 Credit / 15 Hours

Students will prepare for outbound mobility by completing several asynchronous modules, which include formative and summative assessments. Module one, Travel Documents, will allow students to identify, complete, and obtain all required and, if applicable, non-required travel documents. Module two, Health and Safety, will inform students of travel-specific health and safety procedures during their outbound mobility trip. Module three, Intercultural Competencies, will focus on effectively communicating and working with people from different cultural backgrounds. Finally, module four, Preparing to Travel by Air, will prepare students for their international journey.

GWED 225 – Outbound Mobility & Capstone Project – 2 Credits / 30 Hours

Upon successful completion of GWED 215, students will participate in outbound mobility experiences. At the end of the program, after international travel has occurred, students will apply their knowledge to a capstone project. The project will allow students to use critical thinking skills, apply cross-curricular knowledge, and develop new skill sets in their area of interest. Students will connect the materials and knowledge learned within the classroom context and outbound mobility experience to real-world situations that will apply to their future education, business, or employment opportunities.
