Program Description

The Structures Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA) Sheet Metal Program is designed to equip licensed engineers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform sheet metal repairs in compliance with their company’s ACA. This program focuses on providing the essential expertise required to assess and repair aircraft structures while adhering to industry standards and regulatory guidelines. With a strong emphasis on practical application, participants will gain the technical proficiency needed to execute structural repairs confidently and effectively, preparing them to expand their certification and excel in the field of aircraft maintenance.

  • Licensed M1/M2 or non-license holders trained to an M rating or equivalent to perform sheet metal repairs.

  • Include good eyesight, hearing, manual dexterity, and physical agility.
  • Ability to work in a loud and/or confined workplace.

Acceptance Policy

Strong preference is given to applicants who are Status First Nations, but SIIT programs are open to anyone.

English Language Benchmark

SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian/ Permanent Resident to apply.

To be admitted into this program you must be able to understand and communicate in English (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment of six – CLB6).

U-PASS

$286.00 per year - Saskatoon

The U-Pass is a City Transit bus pass for students that allow you to save on transportation costs. The U-Pass fee is provided at a reduced cost compared to a standard monthly City Transit pass and is mandatory for most SIIT students in Saskatoon and Regina. You may use the U-Pass as many times as you would like during the academic term. Students who meet certain requirements can opt-out of the U-Pass. Please contact the Admissions department for more information.

What to Expect

Length of Program

The length of the Structures ACA Sheet Metal program is 4 weeks full-time/19 days (110 hours) delivered in a hybrid fashion. Students will complete 40 hours of online content before completing 70 hours of hands-on training at the Saskatchewan Aviation Learning Centre (SALC) hanger in Saskatoon.

Delivery Method

This program will consist of hybrid learning methods, including online learning, instructor-led classes, lectures, assignments, and practical tasks. Students will have access to materials on D2L – Brightspace.

Academic Policy

Students attending must adhere to SIIT Academic & Student policies which are available on the student dashboard on the SIIT Website.

Attendance Policy

  • In AME, attendance is regulated by Transport Canada. Students must attend a minimum of 95% of class time. There Is a 3-step disciplinary process that addresses truancy.

Evaluation

This program is based on a 70% assessment model. A course passing mark is 70% and a passing overall program mark is 70%. Student progress will be assessed through classroom tests, assignments, and practical tasks evaluated by the instructor. A minimum of 70% must be achieved on every classroom test, assignment, and practical task. Students must successfully complete each course to complete the program.

Graduation Credential

Successful students will receive a Certificate of Achievement from SIIT.

Career Path

Career Opportunities & Salaries

Successful students on completion can conduct sheet metal repairs within an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) to an acceptable industry level standard. Jobs are widely available in civilian and military settings in-province, internationally, and everywhere in between. Other opportunities in aircraft engineering include positions with major airlines, but also many regional flight companies located in Saskatchewan, and others throughout the Canadian north.

Further Education

Students may be required to demonstrate their competence to their Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) in order to receive ACA structure approval.
