Program Description

The Adult 10 program is a nine-month program that consists of five core courses and one elective. The instructional delivery of the program is through hands-on, project-based learning, innovation, and cultivating an interdisciplinary learning environment aligned with provincial standards. Students will learn to work as a team to solve complex business and entrepreneurial problems while creating a team and/or personal business.

Upon completing the program, a student may be eligible to enter the Adult 12 program. Completing the program will help students pursue employment and some apprenticeship opportunities.

The Adult 10 program will be taught in two semesters: September- December and January- May

All students must attend full-time studies.

*SIIT does not currently offer upgrading.

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old and out of school for one year
  • The applicant must not have a pre-existing Grade 10 or Grade 12 completion
  • Must write the ABE Entrance Assessment and/or Interview

Acceptance Policy

Strong preference is given to applicants who are Status First Nations, but SIIT programs are open to anyone.

English Language Benchmark

SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian/ Permanent Resident to apply.

To be admitted into this program you must be able to understand and communicate in English (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment of six – CLB6).

Tuition, Fees, and Funding

Tuition and Fees

There is no cost to attend Adult Basic Education programs at SIIT. Once accepted, program staff will help you to secure Education and Training Incentive (ETI).

Additional Fees: U-Pass for Saskatoon and Regina Transit Bus Passes

U-PASS

$286.00 per year - Saskatoon

$246.00 per year - Regina

The U-Pass is a City Transit bus pass for students that allow you to save on transportation costs. The U-Pass fee is provided at a reduced cost compared to a standard monthly City Transit pass and is mandatory for most SIIT students in Saskatoon and Regina. You may use the U-Pass as many times as you would like during the academic term. Students who meet certain requirements can opt-out of the U-Pass. Please contact the Admissions department for more information.

What to Expect

Length of Program

The length of the Adult 10 is nine months, from September to May.

Delivery Method

This program will consist of instructor-led classes which will encompass the theory of each course, and will include lectures, discussions, assignments, in-class review topics, and hands-on experience.

Academic Policy

Students attending must adhere to SIIT Academic & Student policies, which are available on the mySIIT dashboard on the SIIT website.

Attendance Policy

  • Regular attendance is essential for academic success. Each program has specific attendance requirements that must be adhered to in order to graduate. In order to graduate from this program, an attendance rate of 90% or better is required.
  • If you have been approved for funding, you must maintain the attendance required by your sponsoring agency to remain eligible to receive payment.

Evaluation

Students write provincial final exams where applicable. A minimum grade of 50% is required for at least 6 courses.

Graduation Requirements and Credential

Students who complete both semesters of the program will receive an Adult 10 Completion Certificate from SIIT.

Completing the Adult 10 – Entrepreneurship will prepare students to enter the workforce or pursue apprenticeship opportunities.

Further Education

The Adult 10 Completion Certificate will prepare students to enter Adult 12.
