Program Description

The Adult 10 program is designed as a comprehensive nine-month credit curriculum that can be completed over two semesters. The first semester focuses on a pathways non-credential model. Semester two aims to prepare learners for a completion certificate. This program equips individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to advance their educational and career aspirations. Successful learners may be eligible to enter the Adult 12 program or pursue employment and some apprenticeship opportunities.

The Adult 10 program will be taught in two semesters: September–December and January- May. All students must attend full-time studies.

    • The applicant must be 18 years old and out of school for one year.
    • The applicant must not have a pre-existing grade 10 or grade 12 completion
    • The applicant must write the ABE Entrance Assessment

Acceptance Policy

SIIT provides preferential admission to applicants who are of First Nation’s ancestry; however, SIIT programs are open to everyone, and all application will be considered. SIIT relies on section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018 to provide preference to applicants who are of First Nations’ ancestry.

Permanent Resident Applicant Information

SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply.
For Permanent Resident applications we will request the following documentation:

  • Copy of Permanent Resident Card
  • International Qualifications Assessment (IQAS) International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca Your high school/secondary education credentials must be assessed through this service.
  • Canadian Language Benchmark – English Assessment of CLB 7. We will accept either International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic or Canadian English Language Proficiency Program (CELPIP) – General.

  • ELA 10: English Language Arts 10
  • MATH 10: Math – Workplace and Apprenticeship 10
  • SCIE 10: Science 10
  • INDG 10: Indigenous Studies 10

Required Courses: Credit Completion Certificate – 5 in total:

  • COMM 10: Communications 10
  • SCIE 10: Science 10
  • INDG 10: Indigenous Studies 10
  • LFWS 10: Life Works Studies 10
  • MATH 10: Math– Workplace and Apprenticeship 10 (Semester 1), or MATH 10-2: Math – Foundations and Pre-Calculus 10 (Semester 2)
  • *Elective 30 (Adult 12 pathway credit)

Tuition and Fees

There is no cost to attend Adult Basic Education programs at SIIT. Once accepted, program staff will help you to secure Education and Training Incentive (ETI).

Adult 10 Non-Credential Pathways program: 4 months (Sept-Dec)
Adult 10 Credit Completion Certificate program: 9 months (Sept-May)

Academic Policy

Students attending must adhere to SIIT Academic & Student policies, which are available on the mySIIT dashboard on the SIIT website.

Attendance Policy

  • Regular attendance is essential for academic success. Each program has specific attendance requirements that must be adhered to in order to graduate. In order to graduate from this program, an attendance rate of 90% or better is required.
  • If you have been approved for funding, you must maintain the attendance required by your sponsoring agency to remain eligible to receive payment.

Evaluation

Students write provincial final exams where applicable. A minimum grade of 50% is required for all courses.

Career Opportunities

Further Education

Completing the Adult 10 Non-Credential Pathways program will prepare students to enter the workforce or pursue a Trades program.

The Adult 10 Completion Certificate will prepare students to enter Adult 12.
