Program Description
This program gives students the ability to become well-versed in all aspects of the Automotive Service industry in Saskatchewan. Throughout the 12-week program, students will gain an understanding of the theory pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles systems to successfully diagnose and repair these systems. Students will also experience the hands-on practical portion of the program by performing repairs on automotive vehicles. This program also prepares and provides students with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to start the apprenticeship journey to become a Red Seal Automotive Service Technician, while also developing individual career action plans to guide them to achieve their career goals.
Admission Requirements
- Math Credit at the indicated grade level 10
- Science Credit at the indicated grade level 10
- Applicants with a lower level may be considered depending on their experience and may be subject to an academic assessment for placement
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Registered with SIIT Career Centre and completed certificates (SCOT)
Industry Requirements
- Good eyesight, hearing, manual dexterity, and physical agility for many jobs.
Acceptance Policy
Strong preference is given to applicants who are Status First Nations, but SIIT programs are open to anyone.
English Language Benchmark
SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian/ Permanent Resident to apply.
To be admitted into this program you must be able to understand and communicate in English (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment of six – CLB6).

Tuition, Fees, and Funding
Eligible students can expect to pay little to no tuition or fees to participate in this program. Career Centre staff will assess your eligibility for funding when you apply.
What to Expect
Day to Day
Delivery Method
In this 12 weeks full-time/60 days (360 hours) program, students can expect:
- The program will consist of instructor-led classes which will encompass the theory of each course, and will include, discussions, assignments, in-class review of topics, and hands on shop experience.
- The program is based on a pass/fail assessment model. Students need to complete all courses in order to successfully complete the program.
Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is essential for academic success. Each program has specific attendance requirements that must be adhered to in order to graduate. For Auto Body Repair students, an attendance rate of 90% or better is required to graduate.
If you have been approved for funding, you must maintain the attendance required by your sponsoring agency to remain eligible to receive payment.
Career Path
Career Opportunities & Salaries
Graduates of this program can expect to find entry level employment as motor vehicle body repairers (NOC 7322).
Motor vehicle body repairers repair and restore damaged motor vehicle body parts and interior finishing; repaint body surfaces; and repair and/or replace automotive glass. They are employed by automobile dealerships, automobile body repair shops and automobile appraisal centres.

Further Education
There may be an opportunity for students to become indentured as an apprentice through SIIT JTC, move to the next level of training, enroll in other programs or micro-credit courses.
Any student who successfully completes this program may receive 360 hours of trade time credit towards their Automotive Service Technician apprenticeship.
