Program Description

The Indigenous Continuing Care Assistant program is a full-time program delivered as a one-year certificate. Courses and practicums are designed to prepare learners to assist individuals who live independently in their own homes and to provide holistic care to those living in continuing care settings. Students will be trained to effectively care for and assist seniors and individuals who have chronic conditions and may face physical or mental challenges.

Graduates can expect to work as Indigenous Continuing Care Assistant and patient service associates (NOC-33102) as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team providing care for residents, clients and patients in continuing care, acute care and home care settings.

Acceptance Policy

Strong preference is given to applicants who are Status First Nations, but SIIT programs are open to anyone.

English Language Benchmark

SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian/ Permanent Resident to apply.

To be admitted into this program you must be able to understand and communicate in English (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment of six – CLB6).

U-PASS

$286.00 per year - Saskatoon

The U-Pass is a City Transit bus pass for students that allow you to save on transportation costs. The U-Pass fee is provided at a reduced cost compared to a standard monthly City Transit pass and is mandatory for most SIIT students in Saskatoon and Regina. You may use the U-Pass as many times as you would like during the academic term. Students who meet certain requirements can opt-out of the U-Pass. Please contact the Admissions department for more information.

What to Expect

Length of Program 

      
The length of the Indigenous Continuing Care Assistant program is 34 weeks of full-time study.

Delivery Method

The 5-day Advance course will be conducted by a third-party and will consist of in-class instruction and hands-on learning. Students will explore the theory of RPAS operations and receive further hands-on learning from an experienced instructor/pilot. Students will have the opportunity to explore the commercial applications of RPAS, including advanced flight operations, regulatory compliance, risk management, and specialized industry use cases.

Academic Policy

       
Students attending must adhere to SIIT Academic & Student policies which are available on the student dashboard on the SIIT website. 

Attendance Policy

  • Students are required to attend instructor-led theory and practical sessions and must maintain a minimum of 90% attendance throughout the program.

Evaluation 

  • Students must achieve a passing grade of 60% in each theory course and a satisfactory/pass for practicum courses.
  • Successfully completing first-term certifications are required to participate in the practicums.
  • Students must attain a 60% GPA for all courses.
