INECE 1003 – Supporting Early Literacy in Early Childhood Education Microcredential

Program Description
This 15-hour online course will introduce you to culturally responsive approaches to early literacy through an Indigenous lens. Through interactive activities, videos and readings, students will gain practical insights on early literacy and how to create inclusive opportunities for early literacy development through completion of this Microcredential.
Admission Requirements
- Applicants must be employed in either a childcare centre or a childcare home provider. Students currently enrolled in SIIT programs are not eligible to take this course at this time.
Acceptance Policy
SIIT provides preferential admission to applicants who are of First Nation’s ancestry; however, SIIT programs are open to everyone, and all application will be considered. SIIT relies on section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018 to provide preference to applicants who are of First Nations’ ancestry.
Permanent Resident Applicant Information
SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply.
For Permanent Resident applications we will request the following documentation:
- Copy of Permanent Resident Card
- International Qualifications Assessment (IQAS) International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca Your high school/secondary education credentials must be assessed through this service.
- Canadian Language Benchmark – English Assessment of CLB 7. We will accept either International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic or Canadian English Language Proficiency Program (CELPIP) – General.
What to Expect
Length of Program
15 hours of online learning at the student’s own pace.
Program Delivery
This program is delivered online, asynchronously, without an instructor. Students are expected to work through the course on their own.
Evaluation
At the end of each module, a quiz is required to progress to the next module. Additionally, there is a comprehensive quiz at the end of the course. To pass this course, students must achieve 80% on each quiz. There are unlimited attempts at each quiz.
Graduation Document
Students who successfully complete this Microcredential will be issued a digital badge through MyCreds.
