Introduction to Concrete Forming

Program Description

During this six-week program, the students will become well-versed in site safety and the fundamentals of how to install and dismantle concrete form work to protect the concrete and to prolong the life of the forms. Also, operations to placing concrete, such as bulkheads, keyways, control joints, expansion joints, and isolation joints will be studied. A strong emphasis is on the shop hand-on learning with the focus to best prepare the students to do well on job sites upon graduating and obtaining employment. On successful completion of the program, students will be well equipped with skills applicable to a broad variety of careers, and life essential skills.

  • Math Credit at the indicated grade level 10
  • Science Credit at the indicated grade level 10
    • Applicants with a lower level may be considered depending on their experience.

  • Registered with SIIT JobConnections, and completed certificates (SCOT)

Industry Requirements

  • Good eyesight, hearing, manual dexterity, and physical mobility. Concrete formers may also be required to work at heights and in all weather conditions.

Acceptance Policy

SIIT provides preferential admission to applicants who are of First Nation’s ancestry; however, SIIT programs are open to everyone, and all application will be considered. SIIT relies on section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018 to provide preference to applicants who are of First Nations’ ancestry.

Permanent Resident Applicant Information

SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply.
For Permanent Resident applications we will request the following documentation:

  • Copy of Permanent Resident Card
  • International Qualifications Assessment (IQAS) International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca Your high school/secondary education credentials must be assessed through this service.
  • Canadian Language Benchmark – English Assessment of CLB 7. We will accept either International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic or Canadian English Language Proficiency Program (CELPIP) – General.

Tuition, Fees, and Funding

Eligible students can expect to pay little to no tuition or fees to participate in this program. JobConnections staff will assess your eligibility for funding when you apply.

What to Expect

Length of Program

The length of the Introduction to Concrete forming program is 6 weeks full-time/30 days (180 hours).

Delivery Method

This program will consist of instructor-led classes which will encompass the theory of each course, and will include lectures, discussions, assignments, and in-class review of topics.

Attendance Policy

Students are required to attend instructor-led theory and practical sessions and must maintain a minimum of 90% attendance throughout the program.

Academic Policy

Students attending must adhere to SIIT Academic & Student policies which are available on the mySIIT student dashboard and the SIIT website.

Evaluation

The assessment method is pass/fail. Students need to complete all courses in order to successfully complete the program.

Graduation Credential

Successful students will receive a Certificate of Achievement from SIIT.

Career Path

Career Opportunities

Graduates may find entry level work within their designated trade within a First Nation community or in an urban area.

Further Education

There may be an opportunity for students to become indentured as an apprentice through SIIT JTC, move to the next level of training, and enroll in other programs or micro-credit courses.
