Program Description

The Legal Paraprofessional diploma program provides students with the comprehensive skills and knowledge required to succeed in various legal environments, including law firms, government agencies, and Indigenous legal organizations. The two-year program covers essential legal topics such as contract law, litigation, real estate transactions, wills and estates, and Indigenous governance. Through a blend of classroom instruction, practical assignments, and a work-integrated learning experience, students will develop strategies for legal research, document preparation, communication, and administrative tasks. The program uniquely integrates Indigenous legal systems, principles, and methodologies, ensuring students gain a deep understanding of both Canadian and Indigenous legal frameworks, preparing them to work effectively within diverse legal contexts

Community Connections

  • Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Experience – Through two one-month work-integrated
learning placements, students will work directly with law firms, government agencies, or
Indigenous legal organizations, applying their knowledge to real-world legal issues and
    actively supporting community-based legal services.
  • Networking – Virtual and/or in-person networking opportunities with various stakeholders
    and community partners.
  • Legal Aid Volunteering – Assisting legal professionals in community legal aid clinics,
providing administrative support, and helping underserved populations navigate legal
    processes.
  • Mentorship program – Students in their second year may mentor first-year students,
providing guidance on academic and career development.
