Program Description
This program will prepare students to enter six key construction trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, industrial mechanic, or heavy-duty equipment. Students will develop their job and trade readiness so that they will be able to find entry level work. This program is ideal for those who are interested in a career in the construction/industrial trades and would like to explore the work conditions, required skills, attitudes and academics associated with theses four trades. On successful completion of the program, students will be well equipped with skills applicable to a broad variety of careers, and life essential skills.
Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
- Math Credit at the indicated grade level 10
- Science Credit at the indicated grade level 10
- Other applicants with a lower education level may be considered depending on experience.
- Registered with SIIT Career Centre, and completed certificates (SCOT)
Industry Requirements
- Good communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good eyesight, hearing, manual dexterity, and physical agility
- Some employment opportunities require individuals to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Acceptance Policy
SIIT provides preferential admission to applicants who are of First Nation’s ancestry; however, SIIT programs are open to everyone, and all application will be considered. SIIT relies on section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018 to provide preference to applicants who are of First Nations’ ancestry.
Permanent Resident Applicant Information
SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply.
For Permanent Resident applications we will request the following documentation:
- Copy of Permanent Resident Card
- International Qualifications Assessment (IQAS) International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca Your high school/secondary education credentials must be assessed through this service.
- Canadian Language Benchmark – English Assessment of CLB 7. We will accept either International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic or Canadian English Language Proficiency Program (CELPIP) – General.

Tuition and Fees
Eligible students can expect to pay little to no tuition or fees to participate in this program.
What to Expect
Delivery Method
- The length of the Multi-Trades program is 12 weeks full-time/60 days (360 hours)
- This program will consist of instructor-led classes which will encompass the theory of each course, and will include lectures, discussions, assignments, and in-class review topics
Attendance Policy
An attendance of 90% is required to graduate from this program.
Graduation
Students who successfully complete the Multi-Trades program will earn an Applied Certificate from SIIT. Students must pass all courses in the program to graduate.
Evaluation
The assessment method for this program is pass/fail.
Career & Post-Secondary Opportunities
Students will develop their trade readiness so that they may be able to find entry level work with Cameco.
Graduates of this program will develop a detailed career action plan outlining the steps required to become employed in the industrial sector. They will be eligible to apply to specific skill development training initiatives for industrial employment. Graduates may also directly seek entry-level employment with industrial companies. For assistance in finding employment, please contact your local SIIT Career Centre.
Further Education
There may be an opportunity for students to become indentured as an apprentice through SIIT JTC, move to the next level of training, enroll in other programs or micro-credit courses. Students must meet SATCC admission requirements to enter apprenticeship programs.
