Virtual Health Hub Assistant
Program Description
The Virtual Health Hub Assistant (VHHA) applied certificate is a foundational 18-week course that provides learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully support the Virtual Health Hub functionality as the community level.
Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
- Grade 10 or Mature Entry.
- If applying under Mature Entry applicant must take the CAAT test and score a minimum grade 10 in Reading Comprehension and Problem Solving.
- Applicant must provide a recent Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable
Sector Search. Accepted applicants will have CPIC fees reimbursed. - Applicant must provide a current Immunization Record.
Program Courses and Objectives
Introduction to Virtual Health (IVHH 100 – 45 Hours – 3 Credits)
This course introduces learners to the Virtual Health Hub practice and health systems. Students will explore online learning platforms, explore the foundations of the virtual health hub and understand the benefits to virtual health care personally and professionally, as well as for their community. Students will demonstrate proper techniques of use and care of virtual health technology.
Safe Environments (SENV 100 – 30 Hours – 2 Credits)
This course introduces students to the importance of safety, sanitation and personal protective equipment. Students will explore different scenarios of environments and create safety procedures to ensure safety for both the professional and patient. Students will learn TLR and First Aid and CPR. Students will identify different body positions for specific medical imaging technologies.
Introduction to Health Care Systems (IHCS 100 – 30 Hours – 2 Credits)
This course focuses on the history and current state of health care systems in Saskatchewan. Students will explore interprofessional teams, understand different levels of care and determinants of health. This course introduces students to the concepts of health care from various perspectives.
Health Communications (HCOMM 100 – 45 Hours –3 Credits)
This course explores the importance of communication in a health care setting. Students will work through scenarios to ensure they have experience dealing with various types of communication styles. Students will understand verbal and non-verbal communication and spoken and written communication.
Introduction to Body Systems (IBAN 100 -30 Hours – 2 Credits)
This course is an overview of body systems. Students will explore different body systems, their functionality and their landmarks or location in reference to different modalities of medical imaging devices. Students will be exposed to different indigenous languages in relation to body systems. Students will understand normal vital signs.
Introduction to Health Office Procedures ( IHOP 100 – 30 Hours – 2 Credits)
This course will focus on the office and logistical aspects of working within a healthcare system. Students will explore different file types, filing systems and interpretation of important documents. Students will explore technical aspects of IT and troubleshooting.
Practicum (PRAC 100 – 60 Hours – 4 Credits)
This course focuses on the application of virtual technologies and health care models. Students will demonstrate appropriate hygiene and disinfecting of space and technology. Students will demonstrate positioning and placement of patients in relation to specific technology and procedure. Students will demonstrate effective communication to patient and expert sites. Students will demonstrate their understanding of basic troubleshooting for specific medical diagnostic imagining technologies.
What to Expect
Length of Program
Minimum 20 weeks or 270 hours.
Program Delivery
- Hybrid Delivery – Instructor Led through online platform Brightspace
- One week in-person introduction in Saskatoon
- Online instruction 3 times per week, evening classes
- One week in-person wrapping up/graduation
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated through both summative and formative assessments. These assessments will take place for each of the 7 required courses, including Practicum components. VHHA Learners must achieve a minimum of 60% in each theory course, and a satisfactory/pass for practicum courses. An overall program average of 70% must be achieved.
Graduation Document
Successful students will receive an Applied Certificate.
