Staff IT guide
Quick answers for SIIT staff. New to SIIT? Start with the first-day checklist.
Signing in
- Use a password of at least 14 characters. See siit.ca/password.
- Confirm sign-ins with Microsoft Authenticator, or Windows Hello on your SIIT laptop. Your SIIT laptop sets up both the first time you sign in to it.
- Already at SIIT? Choose a new password of at least 14 characters (siit.ca/password → Change my password) and it no longer expires every 90 days. New to SIIT? Choose your own password of at least 14 characters on your first day; it won’t expire.
- Forgot your laptop PIN? See laptop PIN help.
- Want to sign in on any computer with your phone’s face or fingerprint instead of approving in Authenticator? See passkeys (optional).
Travelling outside Canada or the US
Sign-ins from other countries are blocked unless the SIIT IT Dept approves your trip ahead of time.
- Email itsupport@siit.ca at least 5 business days before you leave, with where you’re going, your travel dates, and which SIIT-issued devices you’re taking (for example, your SIIT laptop).
- Install the Microsoft apps you’ll need on your phone or tablet (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive) and sign in with your SIIT account. The SIIT IT Dept will check your SIIT laptop is ready.
- Before you leave, do one test sign-in with Microsoft Authenticator.
While you’re away, use your SIIT laptop and the Microsoft apps on your phone or tablet, not their web browser, and not hotel or shared computers. SIIT systems can’t be reached from some countries; the SIIT IT Dept will tell you if that applies to your trip.
Lost or stolen laptop or phone
Call the SIIT IT Dept at 306-477-9765 right away, even after hours (leave a voicemail). The sooner we know, the sooner we can secure the device and protect your account.
- Lost the phone with Authenticator on it? See Authenticator help.
- If the device was stolen, also report it to the police and keep the file number.
Working off campus
Your SIIT laptop connects to SIIT systems on its own from any internet connection. There’s nothing to turn on. If something you normally use won’t open off campus, restart your laptop, then contact the SIIT IT Dept.
Wi-Fi on campus
SIIT laptops connect to SIIT_Secure automatically. Personal phones, tablets and laptops connect to SIIT_Student. Ask the SIIT IT Dept for the password.
Teams and group renewal emails
If you own a Team or Microsoft 365 group that hasn’t been used for a while, you’ll get an email asking you to renew it.
- Still using it? Click Renew group in the email. That’s all.
- Not using it anymore? Do nothing and it will be removed after it expires.
- Removed something by mistake? Contact the SIIT IT Dept within 30 days and we can bring it back.
Printing: register your FOB
Register your FOB yourself at any staff Ricoh copier with a FOB reader. Small desk printers don’t have a reader.
- On any computer or phone, go to ca.hive.papercut.com and sign in with your SIIT email. Your access code is at the top left of the Home screen. It isn’t your password.
- Tap your FOB on the copier’s reader.
- When asked, type your access code.
- Tap the FOB again. You’re signed in, and the FOB now works at every SIIT campus.
- Replacing your FOB (lost, stolen or damaged)? Contact the SIIT IT Dept first so we can remove your old FOB from your account. Then register the new one using the steps above.
- Treat your access code like a PIN. If someone else may have seen it, contact the SIIT IT Dept for a new one.
Suspicious email
Forward it to phishing@siit.ca, or use Report → Phishing in Outlook. Clicked a link or entered your password? See scams and phishing and call the SIIT IT Dept right away.
