First-day checklist
Do these in order and you’ll be ready to go.
Students
- Sign in to your SIIT account with the email address and password you were given.
- Set up Microsoft Authenticator on your phone. The sign-in screen walks you through it, or see Authenticator help.
- Add a second sign-in method, such as a personal email address, at mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, so a lost phone doesn’t lock you out.
- Choose your own password of at least 14 characters. See siit.ca/password.
- Connect to campus Wi-Fi (SIIT_Student). Ask at the front desk or your instructor for the password.
- Check your courses and schedule. Open Brightspace to make sure your registered courses are there, and use Self-Service to see your registrations and schedule.
- Install Microsoft Office on your laptop. See the student guide.
- Add your SIIT email to your phone with the Outlook app.
Staff
- Sign in to your SIIT laptop with your SIIT email and the password the SIIT IT Dept gave you.
- Set up Microsoft Authenticator when asked: install the app on your phone and scan the code on the screen. See Authenticator help.
- Set up Windows Hello when asked: create your laptop PIN, and add your face or fingerprint if your laptop has a camera or reader.
- Choose your own password of at least 14 characters. See siit.ca/password.
- Open Outlook and Teams on your laptop and check your email and calendar.
- Add your SIIT email and Teams to your phone if you’ll use them there.
- Save your files to OneDrive or Teams, not just your desktop, so they’re backed up.
- Read the staff IT guide, including what to do before you travel.
